About Subtitle Tools

Subtitle Tools is a free collection of browser tools for converting subtitle files, adjusting timing and checking readability.

Check subtitles as you work

Play or scrub a subtitle timeline on a black background. Select a cue to jump to its time and compare the original with the converted result.

ASS and SSA previews render styles, positions and animation. A fallback font may change their appearance when the requested font is unavailable.

Common subtitle tasks

Convert between SRT and VTT, or export ASS text and timing as SRT. Adjust timing, fix text encoding or prepare bilingual SRT files.

Other tools extract plain text, remove selected sound descriptions and check subtitle reading speed.

Processed in your browser

The site does not send subtitle text, file bytes or filenames to a server.

Exported files download directly to your device. The original file stays unchanged.

Preview limits

The subtitle preview has no video or audio track. Check dialogue synchronization and placement over real footage in your video player.

Open source acknowledgements

ASS and SSA previews use JASSUB 2.5.18 and libass. The renderer also uses FreeType, HarfBuzz, FriBidi and Brotli. This software is based in part on the work of the FreeType Team.

Renderer source downloads

Large archives are split into files of up to 16 MiB. Save all parts with the manifests and restore helper in one folder. The guide explains how to verify and restore them.
