How to convert SRT to VTT
- Choose your subtitle. Select or drop one SRT file. If asked, check the decoded text and confirm its encoding.
- Conversion runs automatically. Once the file and encoding are ready, your VTT result is generated in your browser.
- Download or preview. Save the VTT file using Download VTT above the preview. You can also compare Original and Converted, and review any repairs, skipped entries or format changes.
Format notes
SRT cue timing and bold, italic and underline formatting are preserved. The output includes a WEBVTT header and uses UTF-8 without a BOM, with LF line endings.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
Both formats store subtitle text and timing. WebVTT adds a WEBVTT header and uses a dot before milliseconds. This tool converts the supported text formatting and writes standard VTT timestamps.
Will my subtitle formatting be preserved?
Bold, italic and underline formatting is preserved. Unsupported formatting is removed while the subtitle text remains. Review the format changes before downloading.
Do I need to select a video?
No video is needed. The black preview uses the subtitle timing. Drag the timeline or select a subtitle to inspect it. Checking synchronization with dialogue requires a video or audio track.
Is my subtitle uploaded?
Your subtitle file is read and processed in your browser. Its content and filename are not uploaded to a server. The page still requests the resources needed to run the website.
