How to convert ASS to SRT
- Choose your subtitle. Select or drop one ASS or SSA file. If asked, check the decoded text and confirm its encoding.
- Preview original styles. SRT is generated automatically when the file and encoding are ready. The player keeps Original selected; switch to Converted to compare the plain text, or download SRT directly.
- Download or preview. Save the SRT file using Download SRT above the preview. You can also compare Original and Converted, and review any repairs, skipped entries or format changes.
Format notes
The original ASS or SSA script is rendered locally with libass. SRT keeps dialogue text and timing; styling, positions, animations, drawings and comments are removed. Hard line breaks are preserved. Output is UTF-8 without a BOM, with CRLF line endings.
Frequently asked questions
Can SRT preserve ASS styles and effects?
No. SRT stores text and timestamps. ASS fonts, colors, positions, animation and vector drawings are removed. Review the format changes and compare Original and Converted before downloading.
Do I need to click Convert?
No. SRT is generated automatically when the file and any required encoding confirmation are ready. The player keeps Original selected so you can preview ASS styles. Download SRT directly or select Converted to compare the plain text.
Does this tool accept SSA files?
Yes. You can choose an ASS or SSA file. Both are converted to plain-text SRT using the supported dialogue entries.
Why does a font look different?
Fonts that are not available may fall back to Liberation Sans or Noto Sans CJK SC. A fallback can change the layout. This version does not provide font uploads or system font access.
What if the ASS preview cannot load?
A text preview is shown with a retry option. You can still convert and download the valid dialogue text. Text fallback does not reproduce ASS styles or animations.
Is my subtitle uploaded?
Your subtitle file is read and processed in your browser. Its content and filename are not uploaded to a server. The page still requests the resources needed to run the website.
